I love a clever stunt, and this week, online retailer Kogan has pulled a cool one. Users who viewed the website in Internet Explorer 7 (released in 2006) didn’t see the real Kogan website, they saw a page with an ‘Internet Explorer 7 Tax’ on it, urging their potential customers to upgrade their browser.
As a nerd, I LOVE this, I think it’s hilarious. My guess, however, is that the joke would have been lost on those who are tech un-savvy enough to still be running IE7 on their machines.
If you’re still running IE7 folks, it’s seriously time to upgrade. We’re running IE8 here in our office, but we also run Firefox, Google Chrome and an Apple machine with Safari, along with an iPad, iPhone and Android device for browser testing.
