As new potential safety information emerges about other plastics, and the term EA Free starts being used, the new EA Free Australia website gathers as much information as possible about this new threat as it comes to hand. Stay tuned, EA Free is going to become a phrase that all concerned parents will learn about.

If you’ve had a chat to us about your social media marketing, we would have told you this already, but if you haven’t, you really need to read THIS ARTICLE talking about how to run competitions on Facebook. In a nutshell:-

An action on Facebook CANNOT be the entry – ie: a like, a comment etc.

You can direct people to a third party app on your Facebook page or to a website off Facebook to gather your entries and promote these links on your wall.

In NSW (and please check your state laws) you CANNOT run a ‘game of chance’ competition without a permit. You CAN run a ‘game of skill’ competition – fill in the missing letter, tell us in 25 words or less etc.

If you fail to comply, sooner or later, Facebook WILL shut your page down and all your social media building will have flown out the window. And remember, competitions DO have state laws and they must be followed. Check with the gaming rules in your state.

It’s now apparent that ALL information on a company Facebook page is deemed a part of their advertising, therefore, any misleading information, whether posted by the public or the company, fall under the advertising regulations.

Here’s a quote from the article.

Australian brands are racing to intensify social media monitoring, in the wake of a warning from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission that businesses that fail to remove false or misleading public comments from their Facebook pages could face court action.

The warning followed an Advertising Standards Board ruling that deemed everything appearing on a brand’s Facebook page to be advertising, regardless of whether posted by the company or the public.

I love a clever stunt, and this week, online retailer Kogan has pulled a cool one. Users who viewed the website in Internet Explorer 7 (released in 2006) didn’t see the real Kogan website, they saw a page with an ‘Internet Explorer 7 Tax’ on it, urging their potential customers to upgrade their browser.

As a nerd, I LOVE this, I think it’s hilarious. My guess, however, is that the joke would have been lost on those who are tech un-savvy enough to still be running IE7 on their machines.

If you’re still running IE7 folks, it’s seriously time to upgrade. We’re running IE8 here in our office, but we also run Firefox, Google Chrome and an Apple machine with Safari, along with an iPad, iPhone and Android device for browser testing.

This week sees the launch of the Sydney Caravan Storage website for local client Storage World. Being in a unique position, just 2 minutes off the F3 freeway at Tuggerah, Storage World saw a unique opportunity to target Sydney customers who always travel north, but to multiple destinations.

Tuggerah is just 40 minutes up the F3 Freeway and is a sensible stop for picking up a caravan, saving travellers the hassle of dragging a caravan through hectic Sydney traffic. The website is a simple brochure site targetting one small area of their business.

We’re pleased to announce that as of the start of June, we’re opening up the showroom of our Central Coast organic and health food store, Shop Naturally, for 2 hours every Thursday afternoon from 1pm to 3pm.

The northern end of the Central Coast, and Tuggerah in particular, is sadly lacking in a decent organic supermarket & healthy living / health food store. While Shop Naturally is predominantly an online only store, we’ve found an increasing number of local customers who want to come in to our warehouse to touch and feel or ask questions before they spend with us.

As the demand grows for our showroom, we will expand our opening hours, but at the moment they are:-

Showroom OPEN – every Thursday 1pm to 3pm

Order Pickups / Click & Collect – every week day from 10am to 4pm

Visits to the showroom outside these hours can be arranged by appointment. Contact the shop for further information.

Shop Naturally’s warehoue is located at Unit 1, 5a Pioneer Ave, Tuggerah NSW 2259.
Phone 02 4353 5465 for further details.

Net Perceptions owner James Musgrave has a passion for all kinds of multi-sports and a new obsession with obstacle races. With a growing number of events being launched in Australia, he decided to launch a portal website for this niche group of events so others who share his passion can ensure they don’t miss out on any events.

The Tough Bloke Challenge is open to men & women and features lovely things like mud pits and is run in Sydney & Melbourne.

The Mud Run was originally just that, a run in the mud and is held in Sydney. Now it also incorporates obstacles.

The Warrior Dash was brought in from the USA and by all accounts, is a demanding obstacle course race.

The Stampede is run in Brisbane, Melbourne & Sydney and raises money for worth charities. In it’s first year, it was known as The Valley Stampede was held on the NSW Central Coast.

The Urbanathlon is run by Men’s Health Magazine, and we don’t know a lot about this event yet, but it’s sure to get your grubby and thirsty by the end.

The Tough Mudder, held in Sydney & Melbourne is another charity event. This is the intense race. It’s 20km worth of running and will test even the strongest athlete. Make sure you train up hard for this one.

New events in the works are the Spartan Race, the Big Beach Dash and the Beach Bash.

At the moment, Google provide a free shopping feed for any e-tailer who wants to upload a feed of their products to the Google servers. Today, Google announced they’ll be phasing this out and replacing it with Google Shopping, which, from early reports, will run like a comparison shopping site, similar to those already popular here in Australia – Get Price, My Shopping and more.

Like Google Adwords, the system will be based on a bid price, but the relevance of your products to the keywords will also be taken in to consideration. Cost per click or sales conversion bidding will be available. At the moment, most comparison sites in Australia are a flat price per click, and they choose the ranking themselves.

With e-commerce growing each year, the paid advertising market is sure to see more changes. Read more here.

We’ve seen it on the subway in Tokyo, but now, in Australia, you can go shopping with your smart phone at Sports Girl without actually setting foot inside the store. The outside of the store has giant photos of selected products with QR codes on them. Scan the items with your phone and add them to your cart.

It’s novel, and it has a limited capacity to only showcase a small number of goods, and the constant changes in fashion means this would be an expensive way to sell, but when you’re the first ones doing it, it’s a novelty and attracts attention.

Where I think this technology has real merit is where I first saw it, supermarkets. Can you imagine waiting at the train station, doing your grocery shopping, and then being able to pull up outside the supermarket and getting your groceries out of the refrigerated locker that contains all your items?
